Berber carpet and other floor covering can be purchased through independent retail outets or directly from the manufacturer. Depending on your location and specifications, you will need to find the retailer that suits your individual needs. Use this list as a starting point to purchasing your carpet.

Carpet Manufacturers

Before picking a retail outlet, familiarize yourself with the various carpet manufacturers.  Through the manufactures websites, you can search for local retailers which carry their products. Here is a basic list and description of the major carpet manufactures serving North America.  Below is list of website for carpet manufactures in North America, followed by more detailed descriptions of the companies.

Beaulieu of America

Beaulieu of America is an extension of the original Beaulieu Belgium, the first company to produce polypropylene oriental rugs. Today, Beaulieu Canada is the largest manufacturer of carpet in Canada, which Beaulieu of America focuses solely on broadloom carpet.

Products: Broadloom carpet (including Berber, loop, pattern, plush, shag and texture)

Sustainability commitment: Polyester (PET) fiber is manufactured from recycled plastic bottles using their Earthguard Fiber Technology.

InterfaceFLOR

InterfaceFLOR was founded in 1973 by Ray Anderson and introduced modular carpet tiles to America. Today, InterfaceFLOR provides modular carpet tiles for commercial and residential use. They are also known for their technological innovations and their sustainability efforts.

Sustainability commitment: InterfaceFLOR has a strong commitment to sustainable practices in all aspects of their business. They are currently working toward a goal of zero environmental footprint (for their entire business) by 2020.

Mohawk Flooring

Mohawk Industries is also one of the world’s largest carpet manufacturers, founded in 1878 and headquartered in Calhoun, Georgia in the United States.

Products: Carpet, ceramic tile, hardwood, laminate, area rugs. Berber carpets include their classic Berber loop-pile and new Berber cut-pile.

Sustainability commitment: Mohawk is the leading recycler of plastic bottles in the United States (which are turned into polysester carpeting). Mohawk currently carries 500 products which contain recycled material. Mohawk also uses various technologies to decrease their carbon footprint (such as recycling water during manufacturing processes that would otherwise be thrown as waste.)

Shaw Floors

Founded in 1946, today Shaw is the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, with facilities in the United States and serving customers around the world in residential and commercial applications.

Products: Carpet (including Berber carpets, which they categorize under “Loop”), area rugs, ceramic, hardwood, laminate flooring

Sustainability commitment: Shaw participates in post-consumer carpet recycling. Shaw has its own facility for recylcing its Type 6 nylon carpet. They also have a collection network accross the United States for bringing these used carpets for recycling.
